Bridge the Pond - Project launched successfully
The project started with a joint remote meeting on 12 November 2020 with 30 students, three teachers, and distinguished guests wishing good luck working.
The initiative for the project came from the EU Parliament. Representatives of the Parliament Ryan Meylak from Washington D.C. and Jarmo Oikarinen and Hannariikka Nieminen from the Parliament's Helsinki Information Office greeted the event. In their greetings, Luke Diaz, Mayor of Verona, and Sinikka Luoma-Mattila, Principal of Otaniemi High School, both considered the project a great way to establish transatlantic relations.
The project models the way the European Parliament works. Students work on three committees that deal with topics of their choosing: distance learning, climate change, and transatlantic relations.
Before the transatlantic committee work, students get to know each other by making short videos of themselves, their hobbies, and their hometown.
Resolutions and proposals for action developed by students will be presented to decision-makers from both sides of the pond at a joint meeting on 15 December 2020.
